Pete, who has spina bifida, has had over 40 major operations, was given 3 weeks to live at birth. Now 24 years of age, he first learnt to ski on his feet but, for the last thirteen years, has used a monoski.
In 2001, Pete faced a difficult decision; to complete his final in High School and continue his education, or commit to training for the 2002 Winter Paralympics in Salt Lake City, Utah. He decided that education was his priority.
In 2005 he graduated with his Bachelor of Communications degree after studying at Auckland University of Technology and majored in Television Production. Throughout his life Pete has achieved all the goals and challenges he has set for himself. In 1992 he was the Mascot in the Americas Cup Challenge in San Diego and was the first disabled competitor in the Kiwi Kids Triathlon. He has won various Herald Kauri Awards and has also won the North Harbour Sports Person of the year, with a disability award.
